About What is the best building and room at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside

What is the best building and room at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside?
Will be staying at Port Orleans Riverside this summer. Booked a room with a water view, but not sure what we will be getting. Is there a generally preferred building there? Would like convenience to transportation, pool and food balanced with nice view. Also, travelling with twin 11 year old girls and 14 year old girl. Will they like Port Orleans? Older daughter thought it looked like a retirement home! Please tell me she's wrong and will enjoy it. Finally, our family stayed at the Polynesian back in 2000 and really enjoyed the theming and atmosphere. How does Port Orleans stack up?

As your daughter has demonstrated, beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- so, there's no way of knowing if Riverside will be a big hit until you get there. That being said, I have no doubt that everyone will enjoy the resort. The food court and sit-down restaurant are both located in the main/central area, and are easily accessible to all the room buildings -- each section (as well as the lobby) has their own bus stop as well, so you shouldn't have to go far to get to the busses if you choose to use Disney transportation. Yes, the "manor"-style homes do resemble an old folks home -- but, that's the idea. The "story" behind Port Orleans Riverside is that, as folks started building in the southern U.S., structures were close to the center of town, and had a more rustic, unfinished look -- hence, the 'Alligator Bayou' buildings/rooms have a more woodsy appearance. However, as you move further "down river", the buildings/rooms take on a more 'classy' appearance, as materials were a bit more plentiful to folks in those days. You can request a particular building/section. If you want to be closer to the pool and lobby (restaurants), ask for the Alligator Bayou section. The water-view is a waste of money, in my opinion. You won't be spending that much time looking out your window! :-D There's a nice swimming/pool/activity area in the center of the resort, and there's a boat that runs between Downtown Disney -- it's actually pretty cool, and a nice break if you have the time. Enjoy your trip!

First let me answer by saying Yay WaltDisneyWorld!!!!! Second I have to admit I have no clear answer to your question since I never stayed at Port New Orleans. The only intelligent thing I have to say on the matter is that the last time I was there I stayed in the uber cheap Contemporary Resort. I had a room with a view of the water and every night after dark all the rooms with a water view were treated to a cute little floating parade/light show i.e. small barges with colored lights and representations of characters. It's was just simple stuff, nothing really extraordinary or eye catching, but there was a touch of music. Anyhoo I thought it was cool. Maybe they do the same thing for all the resorts with a waterline view. The wilderness lodge looked awesome btw, I roamed around there during the daytime (took the wrong water ferry) and have been dying to stay there ever since. Yeah the Polynesian has a really fun atmosphere, I agree with you on that. Have fun!
